Which suitcase should you choose for a plane trip?

Suitcases are an essential tool for traveling. They are used to carry different things, mainly clothes, shoes, beauty and bath products, etc. However, what kind of suitcase is ideal for each type of trip? How to choose a suitcase?

What criteria should be taken into account when choosing a suitcase?

Choosing a suitcase depends largely on the type of trip. Some suitcases are specially made for air travel, others for cruise travel, train travel, or car travel. Thus, it is essential to consider the type of trip before choosing the suitcase. When it comes to choosing the size of the suitcase to take for a flight, it is important to consider the length of your stay. For a short stay of two or three days, you can choose a suitcase that is small enough to carry all your belongings. On the other hand, if your stay is a week or more, you will need two or more small suitcases or one large suitcase that can hold all your belongings.

The choice of the suitcase also depends on its location in the plane along the journey. These locations depend on the contents of the suitcases. There are indeed suitcases specially made for the hold, suitcases for the cabins and suitcases in the form of hand luggage. It is therefore essential to know the difference between these different types of suitcases in order to make a better choice.

The different types of suitcase

The hold suitcase

A checked bag is a large suitcase that is not allowed to be taken on the plane. It is usually a large suitcase whose size depends on the length of the stay. This type of suitcase can contain all sorts of things: clothes, shoes, toys, etc. The size of a checked bag is therefore very variable.

However, travelers are faced with weight constraints. Indeed, the weight of a hold suitcase for one person must not exceed 23 kg, regardless of what it contains. This is the maximum weight accepted by most companies. In the event of overweight the suitcase, the passenger will be required to pay additional fees.

The cabin suitcase

A cabin suitcase is a suitcase that can be taken with you on the plane. It usually contains items that may be useful to you on the plane, such as medication or fairly fragile items. However, it must be carefully placed in the compartment located above the seats, on the side.

When choosing a cabin suitcase, you must absolutely adhere to the rules imposed by the airline regarding this type of suitcase. Otherwise, your cabin suitcase will unfortunately be placed in the hold. These rules can be consulted when booking tickets or sometimes on the airline’s website.

The personal briefcase

The suitcase in the form of hand luggage is also called a personal briefcase. This is another suitcase that can be taken with you on the plane. It is very often a handbag, backpack or briefcase containing a computer, a camera, a telephone, and your papers. You can also put essential products in it on the plane such as your toothbrush, wallet, underwear, etc.

The place of a suitcase in the form of hand luggage is usually under the seats of the passengers sitting in front of you to save space in the plane. Thus, like the cabin suitcase, the personal briefcase must respect fairly strict dimensions. If your hand luggage does not fit under the seat, it will be placed in the cabin.
