Finistere is famous for its steep coastline, but also its stretches of fine sand that delight holidaymakers, surfers, and fishermen. Here are the five most beautiful beaches not to be missed in the department.
Virgin Island Beach (Crozon Peninsula)
It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, if not in France. It has the air of a cove, sheltered from view, with sparkling white pebbles and transparent water that has nothing to envy of Polynesia.
The site is not accessible by car: you will have to walk along steep paths to get there. This beach is particularly popular with kayakers, who find a well-deserved refuge there after a stroll along the peninsula.
Saint-Nicolas Beach (Glenans archipelago)
A flagship location in the Glénans archipelago, this beach offers a real postcard setting: clear water, fine sand, full sun exposure. In the afternoon, you can see the catamarans or the optimists from the sailing school cruising offshore.
The place is ideal for a romantic picnic at sunset, with a breathtaking view of the Cordouan lighthouse. It’s hard to be more romantic.
Does the beauty of the landscape make you want to take the plunge? Every year, there are around 10,000 weddings celebrated in Brittany. The Finistère department has many estates for rent , such as the Kerpaul estate in Loctudy which is 800 meters from the beaches.
Amiets Beach (Cleder)
It is one of the jewels of northern Finistère. Turquoise water, fine sand, dunes: it is a corner of paradise that will charm young and old alike.
The special feature of Amiets beach is that it has a grenouillère, that is to say a “small” pond which is ideal for children or fans of shore fishing.
Tahiti Beach (Carantec)
Tahiti Beach is nestled between the Cosmeur and Pen al Lann points in Morlaix Bay. It stands out from other beaches due to the color of its sand. Instead of the traditional white, it offers caramel accents that you won’t find anywhere else.
To get there, take the Sentier des Douaniers (also called GR34) from Carantec and cross a landscape of moors and maritime pines. The walk is worth the detour!
The Torch (Ploemeur)
Torche Beach is undoubtedly the most famous in Finistère. Facing due west, it is a delight for nature lovers, but also for board sports enthusiasts. French Surfing Championship events are regularly organised there.
The site and the surrounding area offer a beauty that is both majestic and wild, with its dunes, its gusts coming from the open sea and above all a two-kilometre white sand beach.
Everything is provided for holidaymakers: surf school, large car park, showers, not to mention numerous restaurants.
The beaches of Finistère are like the department: attractive, but rebellious. When the sun is out, they offer a dream setting: white sand as far as the eye can see, and azure lagoons. But on stormy days, the swell, wind and sea spray will repel even the most daring of tourists passing through.
